2/3/2012 - Tonia Smith joins Standard Distribution Co. as Director of Logistics - SDLogistics

Standard Distribution Co. announced that Tonia Smith will lead the freight management division of the company and will oversee all functions of the SDLogistics division.

Smith brings over 17 years of logistics experience and has worked with all sizes and combinations of fleets. Over the course of her career, Tonia has moved or help orchestrate the movement of over a half million loads.

“Coming to Standard in April of 2011 was the best move of my career” remarked Smith. “Adding the warehousing portion of the business to my customers is a huge benefit for them. The relationships with my customers that I’ve formed over the years is what keeps me intrigued in this industry, I am looking forward to all the years ahead with SDLogistics. I love it here”!

1/2/2012 - Standard Distribution Co. Celebrates 75th Aniversary

Standard Distribution Co., based out of Cedar Falls, IA celebrated its 75th anniversary as a continuously family-owned and operated business.

The company dates back to 1936 when Stan and Norma Seroke, grandparents of Stan and David Poe (current owners), moved from Chicago, IL and started Standard Distributing, a wholesale beverage business distributing beer, in Waterloo, Iowa.

The Serokes’ daughter, Joan and her husband, Bud Poe, would later take over the business in the late 1950’s. In 1971, after Bud died at the age of 41, Joan took over control of the business. Her mother would watch the children and fix meals while Joan and her oldest son, Stan, took on the daily challenges of managing Standard.

Throughout the ‘70s Stan worked closely with his mother and took over a number of responsibilities including working with the sales force. As the other children grew older, they too, came on board and made it truly, a family endeavor.

In 1979, The Poe’s purchased Crystal Ice and Cold Storage, which had been a cold storage warehousing business since the late 1800’s. As the warehousing division of the company flourished, they sold the beer division of the company to another local beer distributorship.

Today, Stan and David Poe manage the day-to-day operations of the company, which has operations spanning across 3 states. As a full service 3rd party logistics company, SDC truly has become a leader in the distribution industry.

12/7/2011 - Standard Distribution Co. opens Omaha, NE Location

Standard Distribution Co, with corporate headquarters in Cedar Falls, Iowa is proud to announce the opening of a new distribution center located in Omaha Nebraska. This new facility represents Standard Distribution’s first 3PL location in Nebraska and continues the expansion of Standard Distribution into new markets to fully support the improvement of their customer’s supply chain.

The 125,000 facility is located conveniently in Southwest Omaha, less than five minutes from the major east-west corridor of Nebraska at I-80 and Highway 50. Standard Distribution will be using state of the art WMS systems in the Omaha facility to accommodate products requiring barcode scanning capability and insure trace ability which is more than capable of complying with any government or corporate requirements. The system allows customers to view and track on-hand inventory from their desktop. From full pallet, to pick-pack, the onsite WMS system is scalable for customer need.

Standard Distribution Co. is a full service Third Party Logistics (3PL) company that has been providing flexible warehousing and distribution solutions since 1936. Standard’s services include: agricultural, industrial and food-grade warehousing, freight management as well as sub assembly and packaging work.
